On March 19, 2024, at the 20th Ukraine Defense Contact Group meeting in Ramstein Air Base, Germany, U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III, alongside Air Force Gen. CQ Brown, Jr., reiterated the United States' staunch support for Ukraine amidst its ongoing conflict with Russia. Over 50 countries and organizations convened to strategize aid, training, and capabilities to bolster Ukraine's defense. Austin condemned the severe toll of the Russian invasion, noting Russia's substantial military and economic losses, including at least 315,000 Russian troops killed or wounded and a $1.3 trillion setback in anticipated economic growth through 2026.

Ukraine's military has demonstrated remarkable resilience and effectiveness, destroying significant Russian naval assets and downing warplanes, despite Russia's targeting of civilian areas far from the front lines. The United States recently announced an additional $300 million in security assistance for Ukraine, underlining a bipartisan consensus in Congress to continue funding aid. This meeting also marked the first gathering of the capability coalition leadership group, with countries like Denmark, Estonia, France, Germany, and the United Kingdom playing key roles in coordinating future support efforts.

Gen. Brown highlighted Ukraine's strategic victories in retaking territory and emphasized the contact group's vital role in preventing Russia's strategy to outlast Western support. With over $88 billion contributed in security assistance, the collective effort not only aids Ukraine but also strengthens NATO and the global defense industrial base, ensuring long-term security and resistance against tyranny and aggression. Austin stressed that supporting Ukraine transcends moral duty; it is imperative for global security, opposing the rise of autocracy, and safeguarding democracy.
