LONDON - Highlights of the first day at the Wimbledon tennis championships on Monday (times GMT):


1329 KASATKINA DEFEATS ZHANG


Former quarter-finalist and Russian 14th seed Daria Kasatkina breezed past Zhang Shuai 6-3 6-0.


1323 TIAFOE BEATS ARNALDI


American 29th seed Frances Tiafoe reached the second round, beating Italy's Matteo Arnaldi 6-7(5) 2-6 6-1 6-3 6-3.

Norwegian eighth seed Casper Ruud eased past Australian qualifier Alex Bolt 7-6(2) 6-4 6-4.


1210 SHAPOVALOV DEFEATS JARRY


Canadian former semi-finalist Denis Shapovalov beat Chilean 19th seed Nicolas Jarry 6-1 7-5 6-4.


1206 SABALENKA PULLS OUT DUE TO INJURY


Third seed Aryna Sabalenka pulled out shortly before her opening match against Emina Bektas due to a shoulder injury.


1200 DIMITROV BEATS LAJOVIC


Former semi-finalist and Bulgarian 10th seed Grigor Dimitrov beat Serbia's Dusan Lajovic 6-3 6-4 7-5 to reach the second round.


1143 YASTREMSKA DEFEATS PODOROSKA


Australian Open semi-finalist and Ukrainian 28th seed Dayana Yastremska beat Argentina's Nadia Podoroska 6-1 7-6(1) to reach the Wimbledon's second round for the first time since 2019.


1140 PAVLYUCHENKOVA BEATS TOWNSEND


Former quarter-finalist and 25th seed Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova defeated Taylor Townsend 7-6(4) 6-1 in the first round.


1116 SAKKARI BREEZES PAST KESSLER


Greek ninth seed Maria Sakkari served five aces as she brushed aside American qualifier McCartney Kessler 6-3 6-1 to reach the second round.


1012 PLAY UNDER WAY


Play began under cloudy skies with the temperature hovering around 17 degrees Celsius (62 degrees Fahrenheit).


Bulgaria's Grigor Dimitrov started his first-round match against Serbian Dusan Lajovic on Court Two.


0936 RADUCANU TO FACE ZARAZUA AFTER ALEXANDROVA WITHDRAWS


Ekaterina Alexandrova, the 22nd seed who was scheduled to play Britain's Emma Raducanu in the first round on Monday, has withdrawn due to illness. She has been replaced in the draw by lucky loser Renata Zarazua.
