Paris 2024 Unveils Unique Olympic and Paralympic Medals with a Touch of Eiffel Tower
Paris 2024 has unveiled the striking medals for the upcoming Olympic and Paralympic Games, showcasing a distinctive design that incorporates a piece of the iconic Eiffel Tower. The reveal took place on Thursday, February 8, introducing a creative concept that intertwines the much-coveted symbol of the Games with France's landmark.
Each medalist at the Paris 2024 Games will receive a medal featuring an original piece of iron from the Eiffel Tower at the center of their accolade. The design process involved collaboration with the Paris 2024 Athletes' Commission, ensuring the medals were envisioned with the athletes themselves. The commission, led by three-time Olympic champion Tony Estanguet and chaired by Olympic biathlete Martin Fourcade, contributed to the creative choices for the medals.
Paris 2024 sought the expertise of Chaumet, a prestigious member of the LVMH Group and a Premium Partner of the Olympic and Paralympic Games, to bring the athletes' visions to life. The House of Jewellery crafted the medals, infusing them with creativity and expertise to magnify each element, reflecting the identity of the Games.
The unveiling event included notable personalities such as Tony Estanguet, Antoine Arnault from LVMH, Martin Fourcade, Béatrice Hess, Alex Portal, Koumba Larroque, and Pauline Déroulède, all representing different facets of sports and achievements.
With approximately 200 days remaining until the Paralympic Games kick off on February 10, 2024, Paris 2024 aims to foster unity between the Olympic and Paralympic Games. The medals emphasize a shared "Eiffel Tower side," while distinct stories for both events are etched on the reverse side, recognizing the unique histories of each. The inclusion of the Eiffel Tower in the medal design further establishes it as a signature element of the Paris 2024 Games.
