Olympics-Skateboarding-Men's street medallists want 'more tricks' in Los Angeles Games

PARIS - Skateboarding has underlined its status as a big draw for the Olympics in Paris this week, but medallists from the men's street competition said on Monday that they want to see more events added to the lineup.

The sport was added to the programme in Tokyo and quickly caught on, earning permanent status in the Olympic agenda beginning with the Los Angeles 2028 Games.

"(It's) only right for them to add some more events," said American Nyjah Huston, a 15-times X Games winner and one of the biggest names in the sport who took the bronze in the men's street competition.

"Vert would be epic... And then they need to add best trick, too. Best trick would be sick."

Skateboarding has captured fans' imagination after it was introduced in 2021, boosting television ratings for the Games and drawing in the younger fanbase that organisers craved.

And while skateboarding may still be the new kid on the Olympic block in many ways, the sport's top performers said it was time already to add more to the agenda.

"More events in L.A. would be best for the sport," said American Jagger Eaton, who took the silver behind Japan's Yuto Horigome.

"To think about L.A. already is stressful - it’s a lot. But am I excited, yeah, I cannot wait to do that, I do believe that more events in LA would be best for the sport."

Olympic skateboarding will continue with the women's and men's park events on Aug. 6-7.
