French President Emmanuel Macron affirmed that his recent comments on the potential deployment of Western troops to Ukraine were carefully considered and not to be taken lightly. Speaking at the upcoming Olympic village on the outskirts of Paris, Macron emphasized the gravity of the situation, stating, "These are rather serious topics. My every word on this issue is weighted, thought through, and calculated."

Macron clarified that while he deliberately discussed the possibility of sending Western troops during a meeting in Paris with representatives from around 20 Western countries, he refrained from making any explicit "geopolitical commentary." He stressed the importance of keeping the issues of the Ukrainian conflict and the upcoming Olympic village separate, advocating for sports to contribute to peace and tranquility.

The French president's remarks came after a February 26 meeting where the potential deployment of ground troops to Ukraine was raised, although no consensus was reached among the participating Western nations. Macron acknowledged the lack of agreement but did not rule out the possibility of such a scenario in the future.

In response to the discussions, many participating countries expressed their opposition to sending troops to Ukraine and clarified their reluctance to participate in military operations against Russia. French Foreign Minister Stephane Sejourne further explained on February 27 that the presence of Western military in Ukraine might be considered for specific forms of assistance, such as demining operations and the training of Ukrainian soldiers. However, he emphasized that this did not imply their direct involvement in the conflict.

The deliberation on the potential involvement of Western troops adds a layer of complexity to the diplomatic efforts surrounding the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia, as leaders navigate the delicate balance between supporting Ukraine and avoiding direct military engagement.
