Japan and Argentina Pledge to Strengthen Strategic Partnership in Foreign Ministers' Telephone Talk

Japan's Minister for Foreign Affairs, Ms. KAMIKAWA Yoko, engaged in a significant telephone conversation with H.E. Ms. Diana MONDINO, Argentina's Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Trade, and Worship. The dialogue began with Minister Kamikawa extending congratulations to Minister Mondino on her appointment and expressing gratitude for Argentina's message of condolence following the recent 2024 Noto Peninsula Earthquake. Both ministers, who share a background in the business sector, expressed eagerness to collaborate closely.

They acknowledged Japan and Argentina's status as "strategic partners" with shared values and principles. Minister Kamikawa emphasized Japan's commitment to working with Argentina under the Milei administration, particularly in the context of international challenges such as the situations in Ukraine and the Middle East. She also emphasized the importance of nurturing the deep bond between the two nations through the Nikkei community.

The discussion delved into economic matters, with Minister Kamikawa highlighting the Japanese business community's interest in Argentina's abundant natural resources. Minister Mondino outlined Argentina's efforts to attract foreign companies and improve the business environment, with both ministers expressing their commitment to enhancing economic and trade relations.

Looking ahead to 2024 as the "Year of Latin America and the Caribbean," the ministers expressed their dedication to fostering bilateral relations. They aimed to build a relationship of trust, strengthen bilateral ties, and continue to work closely through future face-to-face meetings. This telephone dialogue marked the first step towards achieving these objectives.
