Indian Renewable Energy Giant ACME and Japan's IHI Forge Historic Green Ammonia Pact
Indian renewable energy company ACME and Japanese heavy industry major IHI have signed a significant agreement to supply green ammonia from India to Japan. The deal, signed in the presence of Union Minister for Power and New & Renewable Energy Shri R. K. Singh, involves the production of 0.4 million metric tons per annum (MMTPA) of green ammonia from ACME's 1.2 MMTPA Green Ammonia project in Odisha, with a total investment of $5 billion. This partnership will contribute to India's National Green Hydrogen mission and Japan's Net Zero commitment.
Union Minister Shri R. K. Singh highlighted the strategic importance of this collaboration, emphasizing India's competitive advantage in producing green hydrogen and green ammonia. The partnership addresses the growing demand for these clean fuels in Japan and other developed countries.
The Ambassador of Japan to India, Hiroshi Suzuki, praised the partnership and expressed Japan's support for further cooperation in the energy sector between the two nations.
The project is expected to reduce global greenhouse gas emissions by 54 million tons of CO2 equivalent over its life cycle, promoting sustainability and innovation.
