India Launches Investment Forum to Boost Climate-Resilient Agrifood Systems
New Delhi, Amaravati Today: India has launched the 'Investment Forum for Advancing Climate Resilient Agrifood Systems' in collaboration with NITI Aayog, the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers' Welfare, and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations. The initiative, unveiled during a two-day meeting in New Delhi, aims to develop an investment and partnership strategy to enhance climate-resilient agrifood systems. Prof Ramesh Chand, a member of NITI Aayog, highlighted the role of agriculture in climate change, emphasizing the need for carbon sequestration through tree plantation. He also urged for a broader economic analysis of agricultural production considering natural resources and future generations. The Secretary of MoA&FW, Sri Manoj Ahuja, stressed the importance of a multi-stakeholder approach and localized responses to climate challenges. UN Resident Coordinator in India, Mr. Shombi Sharp, emphasized the link between financial and food crises and called for increased investments in climate resilience in agriculture. The forum brought together key stakeholders to discuss six crucial areas related to climate-resilient agriculture, acknowledging the need for significant investments in India's agrifood systems to combat climate change's impact on the vulnerable rural population.
