In a significant development that underscores the growing strategic partnership between India and France, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met with Anne-Marie Descotes, the Secretary-General of the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, on Monday. The meeting, described as productive, focused on the dynamic and strengthening relationship between the two nations. Jaishankar expressed optimism about the future of India-France ties, highlighting the importance of ongoing initiatives like Foreign Office Consultations and Strategic Space Dialogue in enhancing the bilateral relationship.

The partnership between India and France has been traditionally strong, with both nations sharing common values and interests, especially in the Indo-Pacific region. This relationship was formalized in 1998 through a Strategic Partnership, reflecting their converging views on various international issues. The bond between the two countries extends beyond diplomatic ties, encompassing areas like education, business, and defense.

French Consul General in Mumbai, Jean-Marc Sere-Charlet, recently emphasized the robust relationship, noting the shared values and interests between India and France. He lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi's strong relationship with President Macron, describing Modi as a "friend of France." Sere-Charlet highlighted the significance of cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region and the strong links in sectors like business and education.

The educational exchange between the two countries is growing, with an increasing number of Indian students choosing France for their higher education. France offers over 1,700 courses in English, making it an accessible destination for Indian students who do not speak French fluently. Additionally, the economic collaboration is expanding, with more than 400,000 Indians working for French companies in India. This meeting between Jaishankar and Descotes reaffirms the mutual commitment to deepen the strategic, educational, and economic ties between India and France, setting a positive tone for future collaborations.
