Election Commission of India (ECI)'s cVIGIL App Empowers Voters, Over 79,000 Election Violations Reported and Resolved

The cVIGIL app, launched by the Election Commission of India (ECI), has emerged as a groundbreaking digital tool for voters to report violations of election codes of conduct. Since the announcement of the 2024 General Elections, the app has received over 79,000 complaints, with a remarkable resolution rate of over 99%. Significantly, 89% of these complaints were addressed within just 100 minutes, showcasing the app's efficiency and the ECI's commitment to transparency.

A majority of the reported violations, amounting to 73% or 58,500 complaints, were related to illegal hoardings and banners. Other complaints included the distribution of money, gifts, and liquor, defacement of property, display of firearms, intimidation, and campaigning beyond permitted hours. The swift resolution of these complaints, particularly the 529 out of 535 cases related to firearms and intimidation, highlights the app's effectiveness in ensuring a free, fair, and inducement-free electoral process.

Launched with the vision of leveraging digital technology to enhance electoral oversight, the cVIGIL app allows citizens to report any incident of political misconduct in real-time. The app's user-friendly interface, coupled with features like instant complaint tracking, geo-tagging for precise location identification, and the option for anonymous reporting, has significantly contributed to its success. This initiative, complemented by other digital tools developed by the Commission, underscores the ECI's dedication to utilizing technology to empower voters and uphold the integrity of the electoral process.
