China and Nauru Reestablish Diplomatic Relations, Emphasizing 'One China' Principle

China and Nauru have officially reestablished diplomatic relations, making Nauru the 183rd country to have diplomatic ties with China. The move reaffirms the "one China" principle, with China emphasizing that Taiwan is an integral part of its territory. China's Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Nauru's Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade Lionel Rouwen Aingnimea signed a Joint Communiqué in Beijing, marking the resumption of diplomatic relations at the ambassadorial level.

China views the reestablishment of diplomatic ties as a significant step in its relations with Pacific island countries. It reflects the shared interests and aspirations of both Nauru and other Pacific island nations. China plans to collaborate with Nauru in various areas, following the principles of equality, mutual respect, mutual benefit, and openness. This move underscores China's commitment to the "one-China" principle and its determination to strengthen ties with nations that maintain diplomatic relations with Taiwan.

China also called on the remaining countries that have ties with Taiwan to recognize the international consensus and join the global community in adhering to the "one-China" principle.
