Australian Minister Tim Ayres Strengthens Economic Ties with Indonesia on Official Visit

Assistant Minister for Trade and Assistant Minister for Manufacturing, Tim Ayres, is embarking on a significant visit to Indonesia this week to strengthen trade and investment ties between the two nations. Indonesia, with its population of over 270 million, is poised to become one of the world's largest economies by 2040, presenting ample opportunities for collaboration with Australia.

Ayres will engage with various Indonesian ministers and the Indonesia Investment Authority to explore avenues for economic cooperation, aligning with Australia's "Invested: Australia’s Southeast Asia Economic Strategy to 2040" report. He will also address the Foreign Policy Community of Indonesia on the Australia-Indonesia relationship's potential and seek input from businesses and investors from both countries.

The visit includes meetings at the ASEAN Secretariat in Jakarta to enhance trade under the recently upgraded ASEAN free trade agreement. Additionally, Ayres will visit a dairy production project supported by the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research and KONEKSI, an Australia-Indonesia university partnership focused on water and energy security.

Australia aims to work closely with Indonesia to maximize economic prospects and assist exporters in diversifying their trade in this pivotal market. This visit underscores the commitment to fostering strong bilateral ties.
